Today I stood on the steps of City Hall with my colleagues to support an important package of green bills that will help us reduce New York City’s carbon footprint.
Lighting accounts for 20 percent of a building’s energy use, which is why I’m sponsoring Intro 973, which would require that large commercial buildings to upgrade their lighting fixtures by 2025. In addition, the bill has been amended to include sub-metering for large building tenants to monitor their energy usage and help them make smarter decisions about efficiency.
We can’t wait for someone else to fix this problem. We have to lead the charge on the local government level to combat global warming, and make sure we’re not leaving a mess for our children to clean up.
